Torelli Sinfonia for 4 Trumpets and Strings G.33

Giuseppe Torelli (1658-1709)
Sinfonia for 4 Trumpets, Strings, and Continuo G.33
Allegro - Adagio 4:10 - Presto 4:46

Giuseppe Torelli was born in Verona but began his music career in Bologna. He was instrumental (sorry for the pun) in developing the Concerto Grosso and Solo Concerto form, in particular the fast-slow-fast 3 movement structure that was to dominate Western classical music. Although an established violinist, he also took up interest in the trumpet, writing about 30 trumpet concertos for 1, 2, or 4 trumpets. Here the terms Sinfonia and Concerto are interchangeable.

Orchestra della Cappella Musicale di San Petronio / Sergio Vartolo

Note: Performed in the same San Petronius basilica that Torelli intended to have performed, with a reverberation time of 12 seconds. Not a minor recording feat by any terms!
