Johann Friedrich Fasch "Royal Fireworks Music," FWV L:D13 - 2. Andante

This extraordinary concerto must have impressed everyone at the first performance - most likely written to be played for the fireworks display that attended the celebration of the marriage of a fairly minor German princess to the future Russian Tsar in 1745, it is scored for three choirs, each consisting of three trumpets, timpani, three oboes and bassoon - and there are hints that the (at least) oboe parts were doubled. Incidentally, the seemingly unimportant princess went on to rule as Catherine the Great! The music used in this edition is available as a score and performing parts from Brian Clark's "Prima la musica!" Be sure to inquire!
