When I had our first baby it was a 27-hour marathon… with a happy ending.

During my second pregnancy, I prepared and did things a lot differently….

And we barely made it to the birth center before she was born!

So for our third baby we chose to do a home birth for 3 main reasons:

1. My previous birth went so quickly
2. I was a low risk pregnancy, and
3. There’s no place like home, right?

So, I was 40 weeks and 2 days pregnant, which was weird because my other two kids were born just before their due dates, and I was beginning to think labor would NEVER start…

My midwife and I did try a couple of natural labor induction techniques, which you can find on MamaNatural.com, and at 1:11am on September 27, contractions began.

• I stayed in bed until about 2.
• Then I had to get up and get moving.
• By 3am I called the midwife and woke my husband.

Honestly, I worried that I wasn’t quite in active labor yet, but better safe than sorry.

In the video I do a little technique called “horse lips” that I learned from Ina May Gaskin; it helps your body relax.

So contractions were kind of medium intense at that point… steady.

But then all of a sudden they picked, and I felt like I was going to THROW UP.

It WAS really painful. I couldn’t get on top of it like I wanted to. It all just went so fast.

1-3 Early labor
3-4 Active labor
4-4:15 Transition
4:15-4:25 Pushing

And then baby was here.

Then came the awkward part, because I had to sit and wait for 10 minutes for the midwife and her assistant to come and deliver the placenta.

Believe it or not, my kids slept through all of that! Then my daughter woke up about 5:30.

So there you go, the birth story of Faith Valencia. She was a promise from God, we had to face some adversity to get here, but He is faithful.
