Japan (2000 – 2005)

Hartfield was a shoegaze band from Japan, formed in 2000 by Takateru Kagawa (guitar, vocals). Later that year, Yukari Tanaka (guitar, vocals) joined the band officially. They started playing gigs with a support bassist and drummer on December 2000. They participated in a compilation album titled “Seven Winters” which was released on Curse of My Bloody Valentine.

They released three cassette singles by independence production and sold all 1,000 copies of them at independent record stores in and around Tokyo. Hartfield was later signed to Vinyl Junkie Recordings. They participated in a compilation promotional CD titled “Way of a Ray” which was released on Vinyl Junkie.

Hartfield released their long-awaited debut album “True Color, True Lie” on 24th October 2003. It was released simultaneously in Japan on VINYL JUNKIE and in the United States through Clairecords. Scott Cortez of Loveliescrushing, Astrobrite, Star was responsible for mixing the album.

On 18th June 2004 Hartfield released a 6-song mini album titled “L.I.B.R.A.”. It also included Hartfield’s only two known music videos: “She Knows” and “Today Forever”. In 2006 they toured the East Coast of the US with Chicago’s Airiel, playing with such artists as A Place to Bury Strangers, Alcian Blue, Stellarscope, along with playing at the Pop Noise Festival in Philadelphia.
