Dark Country and folk album by CA/NM band Lowlights. Released by Darla records 2009.
"There's a very strong Southwestern undercurrent to this project led by ex-Scared of Chaka bassist and New Mexico-native, Dameon Waggoner. Filled with gothic imagery, Western motifs, and twangy guitars, he's written a set of murder ballads and heartbreak songs that compete with the best of them, most notably Calexico, who have similarly captured the lonely and desolate sounds of the Southwest in their storied career. The lighter, Neil Young-meets-The-Band-sounding moments ("California Home," "Summer's Gone") midway through do a nice job in breaking things up, but it's the darker and hazier country-western tracks ("Under the Sun," "Down in the Mines," "So Unkind") that make for good, late night desert-driving soundtrack music".
