SaGa Frontier - Battle 5 ~ VS Metal Black [Extended w/ DL Link]

Before we begin, I would like to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for my life, and all the gifts which I've been given in it, including the ability to make this extension. Your name be glorified, my Savior, even in something as small as this. Amen.

Amateur Extension Theater 2000, now with 1% more Sentai-styled action fighting hero related music. I'm your mysterious masked host, Alkahest! Hey, that kind of makes me almost sound related to Alkaiser and Alkarl, doesn't it. Neat.

Released for the Sony Playstation in 1997, SaGa Frontier is part of Square's lesser known "SaGa" franchise, and one of the few I've ever had the pleasure of playing. It featured a cast of seven different protagonists, each with a different story to tell.

Ordinary teenage boy Red Okonogi finds his world shattered when the nefarious criminal syndicate Black Cross (referred to in-game as BlackX) sends one of its fearsome lieutenants out to assassinate the Okonogi clan, due to Red's father having discovered the identity of their leader, Dr. Klein. Saved from certain death by a masked hero by the name of Alkarl, Red gains the ability to transform into a hero as well, taking the name of Alkaiser. Determined to avenge his family, Red sets out on a long, dangerous journey to take down Black Cross once and for all...

'Battle 5' is one of fival unique battle themes composed by Kenji Ito, not counting the respective seven characters' end-game boss battle music. It is only played when you engage the Black Cross' prized mechanical fighter Metal Black in combat; a strangely honor-bound samurai influenced robot, Metal Black (M-Black for short) could best be described as Alkaiser's rival, for he possesses the ability to learn from past defeats and become more powerful. Metal Black even acts with a good deal of respect towards his heroic nemesis, healing him of all injuries before they proceed to do battle. I liked him a lot. Shame he had to be on the wrong side...

It's kind of telling that out of the seven SF characters, Red was the only one I could ever bring myself to play through the entire way through, and on more than one occasion. Between Alkaiser's Theme (so gotta extend that sometime soon) and Battle 5, plus the whole 'lone hero up against an evil organization with high ranking flunky bosses'... ah, happy memories. This isn't even my usual preferred style of music, and yet I find myself loving it. Go figure!

Well, we're almost to extension #300. I'm excited! How about you? No? Not even a little? Okay then. I'll just be eager and giddy about it for the both us, then. Take care, and see you again soon!

Image taken from: Google random image results. Used to have some cool SF artwork on my old computer, including ol' Metal Black himself, but alas. It seems I've lost it all without noticing it. Well, I'd rather lose silly data than something really important to me, like my family and friends, ya know?
