Hormonal changes during pregnancy can lead to varicose veins as increased progestin levels can open veins. Weight gain and the increase of blood volume and flow also increases the chances of getting vericose veins. The uterus also puts pressure on the inferior vena cava (the vein that carries blood from the legs and feet to the heart), further contributing to varicose veins.

They can appear predominantly in the legs, but that can show up anywhere in the lower half of your body like your rectum or vulva.

This effects around 10-20% of women during pregnancy and is usually painless/harmless.
▪
It will not effect birth and can take a few months after birth for vericose veins to shrink or completely go away.
