Norovbanzad - Under The Sun Of Placid World

Norovbanzad Namjil(Mongolian: Намжилын Норовбанзад) was a Mongolian singer of the traditional long song.

Norovbanzad grew up in a herder family. In the late 1990s, she helped to introduce the Mongolian long song to the world.

"She set the standard for what "Long Song" could be in a modern society. Like a Dolly Parton, she came from the countryside and adapted strong countryside traditions to a modern stage, to modern life."

Marsh once asked Norovbanzad what she thought about Mongolia's young musicians experimentating with her work.

"She said she wants to stay modern. She thinks that music needs to speak to the new generations and that these older forms of music can very well speak to the new generations."
