TV and movies taught us that all babies need to be born flailing and crying.

We have been shown that it means a picture of perfect health.

But often babies cry because they are immediately born into a cold room with bright lights, loud sounds, lots of people and someone is vigorously rubbing them with blankets.

And when we don’t hear a baby cry, it can cause concern that isn’t necessarily needed.
✺
Waterbirths in particular can give baby a smoother and calmer transition into the world and they can be born gently and calmly.

In this case, the baby’s health is observed not by its cry, but by:
💚having a good heart rate
💚having good muscle tone
💚having a good color
