Donald Fagen - The Goodbye Look♥ (HD) Tropical Jazz♫

'The Nighfly' is more than 30 years old, still, Donald Fagen's album has the same tone, rythm and spirit as the day it was released.

Fagen was born in New Jersey, USA in 1948. His biggest influence in music was his mom who, from when was 12 to 17 years of age, sang in a hotel band in New York. Fagen recalls: "I can never remember when there was silence around the house. My mother was either playing records or singing."

In 1958, the family moved from Passaic and settled into a ranch-style house in Kendall Park (NJ). This transition greatly upset Donald as he detested living in the suburbs. Still, his life in Kendall Park later inspired several tracks on his album The Nightfly.

Donald Fagen worked closely with Steely Dan; the 70's popular jazz/pop band. Thru the 80's, Fagen's work was a continuation of the band's work. He constructed and arranged pop songs that are more substantial than their stylish surface may indicate.

The Nightfly is a Platinum album (in the U.S. & UK). Two top hits on the album: "I.G.Y. (What a Beautiful World)", and "New Frontier". It also received various Grammy Award nominations back in 1983. This relatively low-key but long-lived popularity of his album led the Wall Street Journal in 2007 to dubbing the album as "One of Pop Music's Sneakiest Masterpieces."

Many of the songs in Nightfly reflect a optimistic mood of Fagen's suburban childhood in the late 1950's and early 1960's, and include such lyrical topics as late night jazz deejays, bomb shelters, and tropical vacations.
