Everything In Between by No Age (ALBUM REVIEW)

Released in 2010 on Sub Pop.

No Age is indie rock / experimental / pop / ambient / shoegaze band from Los Angeles. They formed in 2005. This is their 3rd full length album.

Everything In Between is easily No Age's most polished, most consistent release. This album is all about upbeat jams, keeping the experimental / noise / ambient interludes to a minimum. Everything sounds intentional and polished.

There is also a very prevalent shoegaze / pop influence. Every song is textured and layered, and has some sort of tortured (yet pretty) guitar noise in the background. It's either wailing or humming or screeching. Also, every track is very melodic and engaging.

The song writing is very strong, the sound is very harnessed, the chemistry is still intact. it's very hard to find anything wrong with the album. Maybe it has a few brief moments were the songwriting seems a little too accessible or straightforward, but No Age keep enough left hooks coming to keep anyone on their toes.

If you like loud, fuzzy, catchy, melodic indie rock, you will love this. Even though it kept the ambient / experimental element of their sound to a minimum (for them anyways), I was still very surprised at how much I enjoyed this.

For fans of : Pavement, my Bloody Valentine, Deehunter, Liars, Abe Vigoda.
