Today I wanted to talk about a homebirth vs. hospital birth.
I know this is a bit off topic, but I feel like it is an important topic for women and I would love to share my experience.
I have had both a hospital birth and an at home birth, and can see very clearly now the difference between the two.
I just hope to inspire other women to look deeper when they are going through the journey of pregnancy and really research their options. I just went along with what my doctor said the first time because I assumed she knew better than I did, so I just chose to trust her. This is something we all do with our health, and something that I have learned through the last 5 years is not the best option for me - with health and with pregnancies.
HOMEBIRTH VS. HOSPITAL BIRTH
Pros of HomeBirth:
1. You are in control of your decisions, or in a much better environment to stick to the decisions you made prior to the delivery day.
2. You get to hold your baby as long as you want and let them nurse right away.
3. Baby has a much more gentle transition into the world. His first moments are full of love and of his own parent's touch, rather than a cold and sterile feeling of a hospital. My son didn't cry when I had him at home.
4. You get to have family around with no rules about who can come in and when.
5. You get to eat your food and decide when you eat - this is much more difficult at a hospital.
6. You don't get pressured into taking medicines to hurry your delivery along, or pain medicines when you've already made the choice to not use them.
7. Afterwards you are in your own home, and you don't have to stay 2-3 days in a hospital.
8. I tore during my hospital birth and did not at home. I believe this is because with the pain medicine it is much easier to push through when you shouldn't be. This made for a much easier time healing. In fact, I felt so good after my home birth that I had troubles staying in bed!
There are so many different areas that I believe an expecting mom should research before giving birth, even more than I brought up here. But if you start researching a home birth, you will be led in the directions you need to see to make the best choices for you and your baby!
I love you!
