From their legendary fourth album from 1972 "A Song For You". Much can be said about this classic album, but I think just mentioning the innovation of the album is well enough. Because it is VERY innovative.
"Goodbye To Love" was a shocker for alot of people aware of Carpenters recordings. It created a stir with Easy Listening listeners, but opened up an appeal from a Rock crowd. This song is the first of what became to be known as the "Power Ballad". Karen's flawless, beautiful vocals are the highlight of this song, even with Tony Peluso's thundering guitar solo that sent shockwaves among music listeners everywhere. The way that I see the guitar solo is the anger expressed by the sadness of the feeling and lyrics of the song. The guitar solo shows that anger. It's been called the greatest guitar solo of all-time. I think it is and so does Alice Cooper. What a freakin' CLASSIC! Nobody is better than the Carpenters!
