Though it is very hard to find now, it was Chic attempting to abandon the disco vehicle that served them so well in favor of a more hard-edged funk/new wave approach. A lot of experimentation here, as well as excellent songwriting and clever arrangements. Check out the staccato off-rhythms of Stage Fright and the frantic drumwork of Tony Thompson on Your Love Is Cancelled. This album showcased the high level of musicianship that was hinted at in earlier albums. Bernard Edwards and Niles Rogers always had an almost telepathic interplay in the way they played together and this album really showcases it. If you can find this, definitely get it. This one is a sleeper!
