Bohm (1844-1920) was an eminent German composer of salon music, and a 'cash cow' for his publisher Simrock, who apparently used the profits on his pieces to finance publication of works by Brahms. As well as piano music he also wrote violin and chamber music. This piece comes from a set called 'Blumen aus den Alpen' ('Flowers from the Alps'), and, like much of Bohm's music, abounds in Alpine clichés. Of course, Bohm's 'rival' Gustav Lange also wrote a piano piece called Edelweiss, which is far better known.
