Not strictly a confessions collection, but I thought I should upload this little piece of radio history. Elaine Paige's musicals show was bugged by technical error last Sunday, after somebody played in her pre-recorded show at the wrong time. Hence, she unwittingly goes to the 2 o'clock news half an hour early, leaving around a minute and a half's dead air before Deadly's voice signals the emergency CD kicking in. We get to hear half an hour of pretty decent music from the likes of Coldplay, Maroon 5, A-Ha and The Beatles (as one Twitter user pointed out, probably more entertaining than EP's normal show...) before a jingle-less news and travel bulletin brings us back on track, and to a rather hilariously ironic (pre-recorded) first song and link from Elaine...
Actually, the postive reaction the emergency CD got on Twitter for that fateful half hour makes me wonder whether they might do it again, this time on purpose. It proves that Radio 2 is still great even when it's not all completely going to plan!
Note, this is exactly how it was broadcast on the day. The only editing I have done is put in a jingle at the beginning and end. The rest is just as it happened.
