Childbirth education, vaginal birth

⚓️CHILDBIRTH EDUCATIONAL VIDEO FROM 1961⚓️

The U.S. Navy created this emergency childbirth video. And while it’s a vintage video(you know I love vintage birth videos😻), the Navy covered many key points that are beneficial for mother and baby.

⚓️support of the perineum(👈🏻reduces tearing)
⚓️cradle the head, don’t grasp it or interfere with its rotation.(👈🏻reduces injury to baby and mother)
⚓️if cord is around the neck, loosen it but don’t try to untangle it now(👈🏻nuchal cords are normal and are not emergencies)
⚓️never pull on the baby to hasten it’s birth, just support him(👈🏻babies can find their way through the pelvis, pulling and manipulating the baby can cause injury to mother and baby)
⚓️wait until the cord becomes limp and all pulsation ceases before tying it off(👈🏻beneficial cord blood belongs to your baby and oxygen supply through the cord helps baby transition)
⚓️the placenta, don’t pull on the cord or depress the mothers abdomen to hasten it’s delivery(👈🏻manual traction of the cord can increase chances of hemorrhage)

We knew so much back then as well. So after all these years, why are we fighting what we know to be healthiest for mother and baby?

These things have never been a secret. We have been ignoring it, which is worse than a secret. The truth is that we are in such a rush to get baby out, cut the cord and pull out the placenta.

Let’s stop thinking “fast” and start thinking “slow”.
