TOM DOOLEY by Harmony Grass

Traditional folk song arranged a la 'Four Freshmen' by Tony Harding (lead gtr and bass voice). 20 minutes left at the end of a session for the recording of the album 'THIS IS US' Tony Rivers was producing and suggested using the time left to record 'TOM DOOLEY'--they knew it well, and quite often sang it on gigs, such as The Marquee Club and even sung it at Wembley Arena at an awards show. So it wouldn't take too long - - it didn't - - - - what you hear was recorded and doubled tracked in the 20 minutes they had left. (true story) NO CLICK TRACK IN THOSE DAYS!
RCA held a 'launch' of the album at The Hanover Grand in Mayfair and Bruce Johnston of the Baech Boys came along. We were talking and the album was playing in the background, when Tom Dooley came on, Bruce's ears picked up on it and asked if this was us?-- We answered YES (with a big smile on our face-we'd impressed a Beach Boy and they were a TOP World group in those days!! Happy days.
