Title: Hey Bulldog - Recorded on Feb 11,1968.On this day the plan was for the group to be filmed working in the studio and the footage used to promote 'Lady Madonna'.But once inside the studio the Beatles decided to record, the result being 'Hey Bulldog',started, finished and mixed for mono in ten hours, and recorded on straight four-track,without any reduction mixes.John had composed the song specifically for the 'Yellow Submarine' film and soundtrack album. While the cameras rolled for the 'Lady Madonna' film John led the Beatles through ten takes of 'Hey Bulldog'.All ten takes featured a basic rhythm track of piano, drums, tambourine, lead guitar and bass guitar.Onto take 10 was then overdubbed a fuzz bass, deliberate off-beat drums,a middle eight guitar solo,double-tracked Lennon vocals and a single-tracked backing vocal by Paul. This 'Hey Bulldog' session was the first that Yoko attended. In the 1970 Rolling Stone interview Yoko stated,"I went to see the Beatles session and I said to John,'why do you always use that beat all the time, the same beat, why don't you do something more complex'"?Lennon said he was embarrassed to be recording something as 'lightweight' and 'poppy' as this song during her first visit to the studio. He would later call it "a good sounding record that means nothing."
