Money, Money, Money was recorded in mid May 1976, and is one of Frida's highlights on the Arrival album. Lyricist Bjorn felt that the theme had already been used in a few other songs, notably "Money Makes The World Go Round" in the recent film Cabaret. His alternate title was Gypsy Girl. But he had to concede the lyrics did not work as well as with the original money theme.
Money, Money, Money was a hugely successful single, hitting no. 1 in Australia, Germany, Holland, New Zealand, Belgium and Mexico. It stayed in the German charts for 6 months. Abba and Stig were rolling in Money, Money, Money by now.
Abba did a ten day visit to Japan from 16-26 November 1978, their previous visit was in November 1972. They had 3 albums in their top 20. They recorded a one hour "Abba Special" for tv. The group performed 13 songs, sometimes surrounded by dancers. Some songs had a live backing orchestra, as in this performance. This gives the song a big band sound, making it noticably different from the recorded version.
