This is an extremely obscure record from 1997 that I unearthed about a month ago from the Looney Tunes shop in Boston. With it's minimal label art and not much else telling me what it was I decided to take a gamble and add it to my collection anyways. When I first played this record I wasn't sure what to think about it. Each of it's four tracks were centered around very stripped down disco loops; each of them heavily gated to let a lot of contrasting silence seep through the cracks. However, with each listen I began to develop more of an interest with this highly minimized approach, and with a bit of online research found a bit of an interesting background on this release. Soundhack was a German production group who only had 3 12" releases, this being their first one. Each of their 12"s focused squarely on extracting loops from various obscure disco tracks from 1978-80; each of the four tracks on this plate were different interpretations/re-edits of the song "It's a Love Thing" by the Whispers. Without finding this out I never would've even realized this as each of the songs on the record has a different feel and atmosphere to it. The tracks from this record are untitled but this is the inner track on the A-side. It might sound awkward at first but give it a couple listens- sonically I honestly haven't heard anything like it before, their production approach was completely different to pretty much anything else. The tracks on here work very well as DJ tools for layering on top of other songs or even further re-editing. Although this 12" will probably forever be cemented deep in the land of obscurity, I'm glad it made my discovery list.
