Zion´s Daughter - Boney M (1981)
"Zion's Daughter" is a Christmas-themed single by the German band Boney M released in 1981. It´s a re-worked up-tempo version of the Tochter Zion from the Austrian composer G. Friedrich Händel with English lyrics by Fred Jay.
Zion commonly refers to a specific mountain near Jerusalem (Mount Zion), on which a Jebusite fortress of the same name was conquered by David and thus was named the City of David. The daughter of Zion is an image, a prophecy, a type of the holy Mother of God, the city of Jerusalem and the so called Promised Land, in which, according to the Hebrew Bible, God dwelled among his chosen people.
"Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion; for lo, I come and I will dwell in the midst of you, says The Lord" (Zechariah 2:10 RSV)
In other words God has a purpose and a plan for each of us, plans that give us hope and a future. Enjoy!
