💦
A forebag of waters is where the outer sac(the chorion)has detached from the uterus as the cervix opens.
💦
It forms what can look like a bubble on top of the baby’s head.
💦
The rest of the waters will be behind the baby’s head(these are the hindwaters). This is where most of the intense pressure of the contractions will happen and aids in keeping the forewaters intact.
💦
The forebag of waters applies even pressure around the cervix to dilate it evenly and can start to bulge out of the cervix and into the vagina from the pressure of the contractions.
💦
The forewaters usually pop right as the baby is about to be born.
💦
Once the forewaters break, it sends a gush of fluid straight into the vaginal canal to provide lubrication, reduce injury to mother/baby, and stretch the surrounding tissues.
💦
Every single piece of detail serves a purpose in childbirth. 💦
