Jobim was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, composer, arrangerm pianist as well as guitarist. He was born January 25, 1927 in Rio de Janeiro, and died on December 8, 1994 in New York, USA.

Until his death, Jobim recorded over 50 albums, 22 of which were solo, the rest were either live, or performed with with other artists; like Stan Getz, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. He sang with these three more than with anyone else.

Jobim was a primary force behind the creation of the Bossa Nova jazz style, his songs have been performed by many singers and instrumentalists worldwide. Jobim is also the composer of the famous classical song "The Girl from Ipanema", one of the most recorded songs of all time.

Jobim is considered one of the most important songwriters of the 20th century. Today, many of Jobim's songs are jazz standards. The 1996 CD Wave: The Antonio Carlos Jobim Songbook included performances of Jobim tunes by Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and Toots Thielemans.

Jobim was an innovator in the use of sophisticated harmonic structures in popular song. Some of his melodic twists, like the melody insisting on the major seventh of the chord, became common use in jazz and easy listening music because of him.

Brazilian collaborators of Jobim include João Gilberto (also credited as being a co-creator of Bossa Nova), Chico Buarque, Gal Costa, Elis Regina, Sérgio Mendes, Astrud Gilberto, and Flora Purim.

Undoudebtly, Jobim has left a huge footprint in the world of music, and regardless of music, very few people are able to achieve, or could ever do what Jobim did, let alone the influence he left behind for hundreds of millions, and many generations to come.
