Girls’ Generation is nine-member group, which debuted in 2007 with the album Girls’ Generation. Their first major hit was 2009 single “Gee”. Since then, Girls’ Generation has transformed their music from a sweet pop sound to a style that includes electro-pop, R&B, and multiple other genres. Their single, “The Boys,” was the first song recorded entirely in English and produced by Michael Jackson’s famed producer, Teddy Riley.

The group is truly a powerhouse in their native country and abroad. In Korea, they topped Forbes’ Korea Power Celebrity 40 in 2010, 2011, and 2013. In addition, they were named the Best Female Group at the MNET Asian Music Awards (MAMA) in 2011 and 2013. Their international acclaim reached a peak when “I Got a Boy,” from the album I Got a Boy (2013), won YouTube’s Video of the Year. Their most recent release, “Catch Me If You Can,” debuted simultaneously in both Korea and Japan becoming one of the highest selling singles in both nations. Their international recognition and acclaim has made them instrumental in the spread of Hallyu across the globe.
