Unmedicated breech VBAC, hospital birth

💠ACCEPTABLE RISK💠

“Life has risks. So does birth. The goal of informed decision-making is not a zero-risk choice, but the choice with the risk most acceptable to the woman”
-Asheya Hennessey

The truth is that you have the choice to choose which risk you are willing to accept and which risk you do not want to take. When choosing, your provider DOES NOT have a say in what’s risky for them.

🚫For instance, your baby is breech and your provider says “Breech vaginal delivery is dangerous and I will not allow it, you must have a cesarean”

⭕️But what he’s REALLY saying is “Breech vaginal births are dangerous under my care because I have no training/experience and I do not want the liability”

✅What he SHOULD say is “I am not comfortable doing a breech vaginal birth because of my lack of knowledge so I recommend you find a provider who can best help you with your wishes for a breech vaginal birth”

IT IS NOT YOUR JOB TO MEET YOUR PROVIDERS NEEDS! IT IS YOUR PROVIDERS JOB TO MEET YOUR NEEDS!

After having cesarean for a breech baby, she decided that she would not undergo another cesarean. At 37 weeks she found out her daughter was breech and she fought hard to have a breech VBAC. At 40 weeks her water broke and 2 hours later she was pushing......

A breech vbac was acceptable risk to her. A repeat cesarean was not acceptable risk to her.

Making these decisions is part of giving birth.
