Josephine became a friend, as we got to know one another in preparation for the birth of her 4th baby at home. She was nervous, she wasn't feeling great and had an overall looming feeling when she thought about the birth of her son. She knew she wanted it documented, so that she could look back and heal or process as needed. She wasn't wrong about this birth - she said it was her hardest one yet! It turned out, he had a nuchal hand right before delivery, which made contractions difficult to endure and pushing even more excruciating. The midwife was able to get him to retract his hand a little, but only down to his shoulder. Can you imagine?
The acts I love in this video are filled with so much support, endurance, and compassion. You will find in this video:
The love and support of a husband for his wife;
The worry and support of a young daughter for her mother;
The empowering roar of a mother and her baby making his way into the birth canal;
A midwife calmly supporting a tired mother;
A friend of 20+ years, never witnessed another birth before, physically and emotionally supporting a mother, her family, and midwife;
A fully uncensored clip of a baby being born into his father's waiting arms (in case it's not clear by the title and description);
A nuchal cord (can sometimes look scary, but is actually quite common);
Blood;
First latches of breastfeeding;
Cord tying and cutting;
Snuggles, love, and amazement;
Placenta being prepared for a placenta smoothie to help nourish a mother's body after birth;
