Branford Marsalis made his name as a saxophonist in the early eighties in Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, in his brother Wynton's band and later in the band of pop singer Sting. Marsalis has played with the legends of jazz, including Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Sonny Rollins. Moreover, he quickly built a successful solo career, set up his own recording label Marsalis Music in 2002 and wrote the music for the acclaimed musical Fences. In addition, various orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, have invited him to perform with them as a soloist. In 2004, he won a Grammy for his album Braggtown. He recorded his latest album Songs Of Mirth And Melancholy with pianist Joey Calderazzo, who is also part of his famous quartet which Marsalis is bringing to Rotterdam. Bassist Eric Revis and drummer Justin Faulkner complete the lineup.
