Side 1
1. Drive My Car 00:00
A great, upbeat, opening track with R&B and soul sound.
2. Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) 02:29
The first Beatle recording on which George played sitar. He discovered the Indian instrument after hearing one used on the soundtrack of "Help!"
3. You Won't See Me 04:34
One of the Beatles' longest tracks to date, with a playing time of just over three minutes.
4. Nowhere Man 07:53
A track that was rumored to be Bob Dylan's favorite Beatles song.
5. Think for Yourself 10:37 (George Harrison)
A warning against lies; George would later say "I don't quite recall who inspired that tune. Probably the government."
6. The Word 12:56
A foretaste of later "message" songs such as "All You Need Is Love".
7. Michelle 15:39
Another Beatle song that has become an all-time standard. With Paul's lines sung in French, this was an immediate hit when released as an extended play single in France.
Side 2
8. What Goes On? 18:21 (Lennon/McCartney/Starkey)
A reworking of a John Lennon song written that was written in the days of The Quarry Men, the track was inspired by Carl Perkins and featured Ringo on lead vocal.
9. Girl 21:10
The last song recorded for the album, like "Norwegian Wood" and "In My Life" it showed the growing influences of American folk-rock on the band.
10. I'm Looking Through You 23:42
Ringo plays Hammond organ on this Buddy Holly-sounding song.
11. In My Life 26:08
One of John's most reflective songs, this was originally inspired by a critic suggesting he should write about his childhood.
12. Wait 28:35
Originally recorded for "Help!" but not used, "Wait" was brought back for "Rubber Soul" and extra vocals added.
13. If I Needed Someone 30:49 (George Harrison)
Evidence that George's songwriting was improving with each album, this track is easily as good as many Lennon/McCartney numbers.
14. Run for Your Life 33:12
According to the book that wrote this, this is not one of the best Beatles songs, John later said he didn't like this track.
I do not own any of this. The information on the songs was taken from a Beatle book I have.
This is my favorite Beatle album :)
