Stacy Lattisaw ~ Jump To The Beat 1980 Disco Purrfection Version

This song came out after the "death of disco" on the radio, and really bridged the gap between disco and the current dance music, a snappy rhythm track along with a supple and hypnotic bass line sure got a lot of attention on the dance floor! Stacy Lattisaw grew up having talent shows in her own basement with Johnny Gill at the age of 13. She had been singing since the age of 6. Born and raised in Washington, D.C. she quickly became a local sensation and at the age of 11 sang as the opening act for jazz stalwart Ramsey Lewis. Shortly after that, she was signed to Cotillion Records, the same label as Sister Sledge. She continued singing as the opening act for the Jacksons in the early 80's and began to sing and tour internationally. Her first album "Young & In Love" had the legendary Van McCoy as producer and resulted in a #91 R&B hit in 1979. Her second album was helmed by Narada Michael Walden, who had hit the disco charts with "I Shoulda Loved You" and "Tonight I'm Alright" himself in 1979. The result was pure magic with the dancefloor hits "Dynamite" and "Jump to The Beat" both #1 disco/dance hits and "Let Me Be Your Angel" peaking at # 21 on the Hot 100. She was only 16 when she recorded this album. Becoming increasingly disenchanted with the music industry, she fully embraced religion at the end of the 80's. Her music has been coverd by Kylie's sister Danni Minogue "Jump To The Beat" and Mariah Carey sampled her song "Attack Of The Name Game" for the #1 monster hit "Heartbreaker". While she no longer records any music outside of gospel, she has left behind a library of dance and R&B music that is celebratory and uplifting....so embrace the good things in life, come on and jump to the beat!
