A sax cover by subversiveasset of Nobuo Uematsu's "People Without Hope" from Chrono Trigger. (I've also seen this written "People Who Threw Away The Will To Live," which is so much more evocative!)
Can you imagine living in a world of permanent winter, the sky blocked by the pollution that the eldritch abomination that had been living within your planet for thousands and millions of years unleashed? All food is gone; you only survive because of a single machine -- the enertron -- that can restore you within seconds...but you still are hungry.
This is the world of 2300 AD in Chrono Trigger. A bleak world drained of its energy by the monstrous Lavos. Can the future be changed? Or must people who threw away the will to live be destined to suffer?
Song: People Without Hope ( 生きる望みをすてた人々 )
Game: Chrono Trigger ( クロノ・トリガー )
Composer: Nobuo Uematsu
When I was arranging this work, I wanted to capture the complete despair of the people barely struggling to survive in Chrono Trigger's 2300AD. Although this is a fairly faithful rendition of "People Without Hope" for saxophone, vibraphone and bells, definitely listen through to the second part of the song for some thematic motifs to other Chrono Trigger songs.
