Turn Your Love Around - George Benson (1981)

"Turn Your Love Around" was one of many major jazz, R&B and pop hit singles for George Benson. The song was written and recorded as an original track to help fill out Benson's 1981 greatest hits album, "The George Benson Collection". It reached number one on the Soul Singles chart and number five on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts in early 1982, as well as the top ten on the Jazz chart. The song won a Best R&B Song Grammy Award at the 25th Grammy Awards in 1983 for Bill Champlin, Jay Graydon, and Steve Lukather (of Toto) as its composers. The song is notable for being one of the very first pop hits to feature a Linn LM-1 drum machine, programmed by noted session artist and Toto drummer Jeff Porcaro. "The George Benson Collection" was a compilation album by Benson, released on the Warner Bros. record label in 1981. The album was a two-record set, and was later releaseded on one compact disc. In addition to old material, the album featured two new songs, including his #1 R&B hit "Turn Your Love Around". The album was certified Gold by the RIAA, and covers his tenures with A&M Records, CTI Records, and his then-current label Warner Bros. Records. George Benson (born March 22, 1943) is a ten-time Grammy Award-winning American musician, whose recording career began at the age of twenty-one as a jazz guitarist. Benson first came to prominence in the 1960s playing soul jazz with the likes of Jack McDuff. Benson then launched a successful solo career, alternating between jazz, pop, R&B singing, and scat singing. This one-time child prodigy was also a major live attraction during the 1970s and 1980s, and continues to attract a large following today.
