City Fly are proud to present the 'CSA EP' by Creative Swing Alliance aka Pablo Valentino & Steven Wobblejay. Not content in running Faces Records -- featuring releases from Simbad and Danilo Plessow's Motor City Drum Ensemble/Inverse Cinematics aliases -- and releasing 12"s under his Creative Swing Alliance, Kid Swing and Hipster Wonkaz pseudonyms, Pablo also co-runs the already iconic and buy-on-sight MCDE imprint with Danilo Plessow and is an influential component in the label gaining notoriety and cult status with its 'Raw Cuts' series -- ubiquitous in many a DJ's set regardless of genre. Steven has released records on Compost Records, Soultronik & Jazzmin under his moniker Steppah Huntah and played double bass for the Japanese jazz band Sleepwalker". They both come from the city of Strasbourg, France, shared turntables & dropped parties for more than 10 years together.
On to their debut for City Fly and their eponymous 'CSA EP' is judging by the track titles an ode to love and showcases their ability in joining the dots between the classic sounds of Detroit Techno, Chicago House and New York Garage -- fusing a cross-pollination of sounds complete with an ear open to the future. No longer under the radar, this is Creative Swing Alliance's opportunity to be at the forefront of the house movement -- one within which City Fly are excited to be part of...
A1 -- 'GET DOWN'
Kicking off the EP is 'Get Down', which as the title implies is one aimed squarely at the dancefloor. Commencing with a heavy kick and crowd noises -- listen carefully and the shouts decipher as 'Down here, get down here', very apt in this case -- the track soon builds into a multi-textured groove complete with rhythmic bass, incessant synths and killer keys that contribute to an unrelenting yet hypnotic climax which ceases to drop. Definitely one to rinse peak-time...
A2 -- 'IN LOVE'
Initially building with guitar licks and an infectious male vocal hook yearning to 'Fall in love again', 'In Love' metamorphoses into a multi-layered syncopated rhythm complete with warm swirling pads, heavy bassline and teasing female vocal snippets that interject throughout. Relentlessly building, the track culminates with a percolating and transcendent climax that adds another dimension, taking the listener on a journey whether on the stereo or in the club...
B1 -- 'WHAT WOMEN NEED'
Reminiscent of a production on his Detroit-inspired MCDE imprint, 'What Women Need' is a raw, stripped-back affair with a typically de rigueur soul vox that adds warmth yet compliments the pulsing bassline effortlessly. A slow-burner that grows on repeated listens, though it has a more laissez-faire approach its simplicity makes it all the more engaging -- resulting in an effective warm-up tool that will appeal to the heads and dancers alike...
B2 -- 'IN LOVE' (JAMES JOHNSTON LOST LOVE MIX)
Having contributed to City Fly's debut 'Visions EP' with 'Move Forward' and building up an impressive discography on the house roster with releases/remixes on 4 Lux, Kolour Recordings and Undertones -- not to mention co-founding the 'No Matter What' label with fellow house producer du jour Alex Agore -- it was inevitable City Fly would retain the services of fellow kindred spirit James Johnston. Taking a deeper trajectory, James' remix of 'In Love' is an atmospheric interpretation with a haunting larynx and echoes reverberating against a warm, shuffling bassline -- descending into a deep nocturnal jam that's perfect for the early hours...
