The wonderful score for the 1966 Broadway musical "Sweet Charity" was written by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields. The original production starred Gwen Verdon and John McMartin. The musical was adapted for a film version in 1969 with Shirley MacLaine as Charity and John McMartin as Oscar Lindquist. Besides "Big Spender", the score included many other popular songs including "If My Friends Could See Me Now", "There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This", "The Rhythm Of Life" and "Where Am I Going". This version of "Hey Big Spender" is the original Broadway Cast recording. Two other popular versions are by Peggy Lee and Shirley Bassey. I always thought that Shirley MacLaine was a great actress. I loved her in "The Apartment" and "The Children's Hour". I also felt that she was wonderful in "Downton Abbey". I thought it was a bit on the strange side when she wrote yet another book about reincarnation in the 80s and claimed that she was married to Charlemagne! I have included some great pictures of her in this video. Enjoy! Thanks For Your Comments.
